Family and Books

***Update***Just wanted to let you all know that Lifeway (Christian bookstore chain) is having a sale, and several of the books I mentioned are on sale until the 26th.  The Jesus Storybook Bible is only $8.50 and the Henrietta Mears book (What the Bible is all about Bible Handbook) is 50% off, so it’s $8.99.  I think it’s the best of it’s kind, so if you are wanting to dig into scripture, this is a great place to start!!!! You can do it!!!
Also, I am so excited about the Bible Study.  I will post more when I have a better idea of the details, but I am sad to say I don’t think we will all be able to squeeze into my house, so I am looking into a few locations that might let us borrow space.  Please pray that we can find a good spot/time that works well for everyone.  I also wanted to let you know that we are going to be doing “Stepping Up” by Beth Moore, and I am working on figuring out a way to include all of you who are interested in joining us.  I am praying through details, so please join me in asking the Lord to bless the “planning.”  I am so, so excited to share this time with you.  I will keep you posted…in the meantime, head over to Lifeway and get some good deals!!!
Hi all!  I hope you are well.  The past few days have been really busy (in a good way), so I haven’t had a chance to post.  Nicol, Greg and Summer are in town, as well as Todd’s brother Jack, his wife Molly, their kids Bella and Jackson, and my in-laws.  I love a house packed with family, and it has been amazing to just spend time together…we are so incredibly blessed to have each other.
I have been praying for the past few weeks about this, and I am really excited to mention it here and see what God has in store.  I am thinking about starting a Bible study (probably Beth Moore but I haven’t decided for sure) and I would love to invite you to be a part of it. We will meet at my house, either every week or every other week depending on what is good for everyone.  If you are interested (and live in Nashville!), please email me at angelac519@gmail.com and put “Bible Study” in the subject line.  I would love the chance to fellowship with you, and would consider it an honor to share some time with you as we seek the Lord together. I am thinking that maybe a group of 15 would be a good size…let me know if you would like to come:) If you are not a believer, but would like to learn more about Christianity, please know that I would LOVE to have you.  I am so looking forward to connecting with you…
Also, I wanted to let you know that Danielle’s Blogs are on sale through the end of the month, so if you are thinking of making over your blog, now’s the time! I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed working with her, and I know you will too.
And finally (sorry this post is all over the place…it’s late and my brain is tired:)), I am going to pass along this list of some of my favorite books.  Many of them have been instrumental in shaping my faith-walk, and I would love for you to have the opportunity to soak in the wisdom they have to offer.  I categorized them based on several emails I have received, and I hope this is helpful to you.  I have vivid memories of standing in a train station bookstore with my dad in Japan and fanning books from cover to cover in front of my face so I could smell the pages.  I haven’t changed much:)  I am praying you will be as inspired as I have been by these amazing books…may you yearn for the face of the Lord as you read.
Bible:
I usually read from the NIV
The Bible in 90 Days (Cooper)…this is the NIV version, but broken down into sections so that you read the whole Bible in 90 days…this is how I finally read the whole thing!
Bible Commentaries:
Believer’s Bible Commentary (MacDonald)
NIV Commentary (Bruce)
I would also recommend a Hebrew/Greek Lexicon-this will give you the meaning of the original words used in scripture…so interesting and helpful for study.
It’s also good to have a concordance (I use Strong’s) to look up/cross-reference words you find in scripture.
Learning the Bible:
What the Bible is All About (Mears) LOVE this book!!!! It is big, but it is really good.
The Bare Bones Bible Handbook (George) Good beginner book.
How to Study Your Bible (Arthur)
Praying God’s Word (Moore)  Broken down by topic (depression, anxiety, unforgiveness, despair etc), this helps you find scriptures related to different strongholds.
Prayer/Meditation:
Intimacy With Christ (Guyon)
Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ (Guyon)
The Seeking Heart (Fenelon)
The Valley of Vision…a collection of Puritan Prayers
General Christian:
The Hiding Place (Ten Boom)
The Ragamuffin Gospel (Manning)
Sabbath (Muller)
Connecting (Crabb)
Prayer (Foster)
Celebration of Discipline (Foster)
The Sacred Romance (Curtis & Eldridge)
Wild at Heart (Eldridge)…for men
What’s So Amazing About Grace (Yancey)
The Pursuit of God (Tozer)
Desiring God (Piper)
Same Kind of Different as Me (Hall & Moore)
Blue Like Jazz (Miller)
Your God Is Too Safe (Buchanan)
Mere Christianity (Lewis)
Chronicles of Narnia (Lewis)
Daily Devotionals:
My Utmost for His Highest (Chambers)
A Diary of Private Prayer (Baillie)
Streams in the Desert (Cowman & Reimann)
Bible Studies:
Anything by Beth Moore…my favorites are The Patriarchs and Breaking Free, but all the ones I have done are amazing.
Anything by Priscilla Shirer…she is also ridiculous.
Women Gifted for Ministry (Towns)
Parenting:
Grace Based Parenting (Kimmel)
Parenting the Way God Parents (Koonce)
Easy Homeschooling Techniques (Curry)
Children of Character I (Freeman)
I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart:
I will tell of all your wonders.
I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing praise to your name,
O most High.
Psalm 9:1-2
Have a great night…I will write again soon.

Oh Angie! What a blessing you have been to me for some time now. I never knew God could use someone who used to be a complete stranger to me to teach me so much about life and love- someone who admits so openly her own ineptitude apart from our Jesus. Thank you for your faithfulness and willing heart. I can only pray that some day I will meet in person the women who I so often meet on this blog. Then again, I know I will. My love and prayers are with you and your sweet family tonight.

What great lists! You’ve been busy! I have read some of the same books, and loved each one of them. I will have to add some of these to my “summer reading.” Thanks for once again sharing so much with so many!

  • Sara

I’m smiling at the thought of 100 people showing up at your doorstep for bible study :) Seeing as I’m a few states away I don’t think I’ll be joining you, but I think it will be so amazing for you to get to connect with all these new friends who care so much about you.

Have a wonderful time with your family and know, as always, you are thought of often and remembered in prayer. Enjoy the chaos… being from a big family, I miss that from time to time!

It is so encouraging to see a woman seeking the Lord so much. Look at all those books you have read! That is truly amazing. I can’t wait to read some. This list is very helpful to have.
ps I have read Celebration of Disciplines and LOVE it… plus am also a big fan of Beth Moore :)

I came to your blog after a friend told me your story. Your thoughts on faith could not have come at a better time for me and I am inspired and encouraged by all of your posts. Thanks for your recommendations on books…I was actually just at the bookstore tonight trying to find something to help me reconnect with God, but was frustrated in my search…I’ll have to check out some from your list! Thanks again for your honesty and authenticity.

  • Kelli :)

I wish I lived in Nashville.
    Unfortunately, I’m one state away.
Enjoy family time! :) Look forward to the next post. LOVE!

Being in the Pacific NW, I can’t make the Bible group. Would you consider having someone take really good notes and doing an email study? I would love to receive weekly lessons/assignments.

I told my boys your story tonight as they saw the pictures of your girls. My 7 year old shed tears, but was comforted knowing that Audrey is with Jesus as he has said he wants to be. They both know loss as we have lost, and they both said God bless you.

Angie, I have been so blessed by your blog. I find myself checking it everyday looking to see what new words of encouragement you have written from your heart. I’m praying for your family even now especially as you are all together. I’m excited to check out some of the books you have posted here. Just tonight I had 7 women at my house for session 4 of Beth Moore’s “Living Beyond Yourself” and it was on JOY! It reminded me of all of the people that I am praying for who are showing their (God’s) joy in the midst of some very difficult circumstances – you, your friend Adrienne, Steven Curtis Chapman, etc. I am thrilled to get glimpses of what God is doing in other people’s lives as I get to live out what He is doing in mine. Thank you for being open and sharing your heart with the world. (Okay, maybe the whole world isn’t reading your blog, but at least 100,000 or so a week, right?) It’s such a blessing – don’t ever stop!

    Praying in Washington State –

    Karen

P.S. I so wish I lived near you because I would LOVE to come to the study at your house!

    Hi there,
I am a “lurker” I guess . . or whatever the word is . . . I must confess that I came across your blog via a link to link to link in blogspot from friend to friend . . .and what a blessing you are to all of us who read your posts!
I, too, have suffered much loss in life and am finding my way, step by step, with faith in the Lord that He will lead the way. My suffering is different from yours . . . but your words leap from the page and reach places in my heart that make me yearn to write the words that are so deeply etched into my soul that not even my husband or my very best friend know them. Only my God and I have “gone there”, so to speak. Like layers of an onion, I have shared on many levels. . . but your strength and perseverance give me great pause on the thought of diving deeper into “blog therapy”. I suffer from chronic illness that has halted my life as I know it, and brought me to my knees – reassessing my purpose as I thought I knew it. I’m often up at the wee hours of the night and in pain, and I lift you in prayer as I read your words about sweet Audrey and your family. . . wondering if you, too, are awake at this hour praying too.
The reason for bringing me out of hiding tonight is that reading your invitation to join you for bible study at your home made me laugh out loud at 3am and scared my cat off of my lap! I immediately envisioned 200 people showing up on your doorstep to share in faith and fellowship. I, too, love Beth Moore and have enjoyed many of her books and studies – and if I lived closer (I’m in northern WV) I would join you with brownies and a smile every week!
    I am praying for you-Keep hearing Him . . .
Feel free to “lurk back” anytime: http://www.werdebaughfamily.blogspot.com

    Blessings,
    Christina Werdebaugh

I had the privilege of hearing Pricilla speak here in Australia at the Hillsong Colour Conference. Oh. My. WORD. I was with our pastors wife, and she promptly brought pretty much everything. I’ve never read anything by Beth Moore, but I have heard nothing but her praises sung all over the blogsphere.

I wish I lived in Nashville! I’ve told Adam we have to move, so I can go to Bible-study at Angie’s. *grin* He just looked at me with compassion… most likely because he thought I’d completely lost my marbles. It doesn’t matter… we’ll meet someday, I know it. He just kinda pats my head whenever I say that. *laugh*

Anyways, still praying for you, lovely lady, and you are most welcome around my parts on blogger at least, anyday. :)

  • keeponcohen

I wish I lived closer. So often, I’ve wanted to reach out to you and ask where you find that kind of faith… and, perhaps more importantly, how you keep it.

    Angie,
Hey! This is first time post for me on your site. I have truly enjoyed getting to “know” you via your blog.

May I suggest doing an on-line bible study for those of us who would love to come to your house but do not live in the vicinity.

I am not sure about logistics in doing it, but if there’s a will there should be a way to do it.

    Just a thought.
Be Blessed today and enjoy your family.

Hi Angie – I love your book list, I think it is pretty much identical to mine. I also like Experiencing God Daily Devotionals by Henry Blackaby. I noticed you have Children of Character by Mardy and Bill Freeman on your list. I don’t know if you know the Freeman’s, but they are friends of our family and they are such an amazing family. I know for me, I always love to hear that people are actually living what they write or “practicing what they preach” I guess you could say. They do. I am actually on my way to the airport (literally) to be at a prayer retreat in the N. Georgia mountains with Mardy this weekend. I will continue to keep you and your family in prayer as I will have some much needed, uninterrupted time with my Savior! You are such an amazing inspiration to me – I feel like I know you.

    Love,
    Shelby in FL

What fun to have family visiting!!
Thank you for this list of books. I have read several of them, but saw some new ones on there I haven’t… will need to pick up a couple for our week at the beach.

I wish I lived in Nashville… I would love to go to your Beth Moore study. I don’t think a weekly airline ticket from DC to Nashville is in the budget, either. :(

Enjoy the rest of your time with yoru family!

Angie, I’ve been following your blog for a couple months now. I’ve truly been blessed by your honesty and your faith. God’s timing is amazing as always as our family walked alongside another family from preschool who lost a father/husband this year. Watching God show up in your grieving process has been encouraging and this family watches God show up in theirs as well. I also enjoyed reading portions of Adrienne’s blog as we are in the process of brining home a 2 year old boy from Korea. We don’t suffer from infertility but feel God has called us to this journey. So now two random things…
    1. Try posting your email like this angelac519 [at] gmail.com. Then all those annoying internet bots can’t pick it up as an email and spam you.
    2. Have you ever read any of Karen Kingsbury’s novels? She’s my all time favorite Christian fiction writer (and I’ve read an embarrasing amount of it). In one of her recent installations of the Baxter family series (I think Summer is the title), a main character suffers a loss very similar to hers. I haven’t read all the comments on your blog, maybe someone already mentioned it.
Well I’ve been long enough…Many Blessings and Thank You.

    Hi Angie!
Oh, how I would LOVE to come to your Bible Study, but living here in South Jersey, it is obviously not possible…..sigh :)
I have been part of several Beth Moore studies before and she is just awesome.
Oh how I love to be surrounded by my books…..I cringe when starting a new one because I do not want to ruin the “newness” of it….so silly, I know!
Thank you, thank you for posting a list of your favs- can’t wait to check them out.
Thank you for sharing your life and your loves.
All my love and prayers to you and your family.

Oh my goodness… Hello New BFF! :o )

If I lived in Nashville, and oh if I did, I mean I could actually hop a Southwest Airlines flight every week and rack up the frequent flyer miles, but my husband might actually divorce me over something like that so… Suffice it to say, My Fort Worth Homebody will continue on with my Home Girls over by the church.

What a blessing you are, Angie. God is going to richly reward you. May I suggest “Stepping UP” as your first study – Good for you and the girls I am sure.

May I have the privilege of praying for your Bible study? I will start now and then if you feel this is appropriate you can let me know how to pray for you and your girls.

    Father God,

I so thank you for Angie and her heart to minister to women, especially hurting and lost women. God you are so good to us and though a painful time has come into Angie’s life she is allowing you to turn it for good. Bless Her Lord, Bless Her INDEED!

Prepare the hearts of the women who will join her for study Lord, bring them to her like baby ducks follow their MOMMA. God You know exactly what Angie and these women will need, so give her discernment, wisdom and direction. Bless them all with your Spirit, Your Favor, Your Hope and Your Love.

In Jesus, sweet sweet name, Amen.

Have you thought of an online Bible Study? I did a Bible study with my mom, sister & aunt via email one time. We would read the chapter and then one would post questions and we would all reply in a different color font so it wasn’t too confusing. It was a neat way to connect while living so far apart!

  • Raley Family Blog

Beth Moore is doing an online study at this time on her blog. You might be able to get an idea of how to do it on your blog. She posts videos with the questions etc. for the week.

I was in a study (Loving Well by Beth Moore) at my church so I did not start her online study. I am also on my way to Africa in 48 hours for mission work!

Anyway, I am another one who found your blog via a friends blog. My heart breaks for your loss but I praise Jesus for how He is using you to reach MANY people each day. You are an encouragement to me and your love for the Lord is overflowing from the page each time I read. Imagine how many people are hearing the love of God for the first time as they read your blog and hear about your love for Him!

I pray God shows you which direction to take for your Bible Study. I think it is a great idea and a great way to bring people together.

I second the Ragamiffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read and I’ve given away so many copies over the past 10 years! I’d be happy to pass along a copy to anyone who wants one. Angie, thanks for sharing the love of Christ. I am renewed and blessed.

Oh how I wish I lived in Nashville :) But, Michigan is a little far to drive! I have a feeling your inbox is going to be overflowing with Bible Study requests – how AWESOME is that!!

We are doing Breaking Free in my Small Group right now. It’s my first Beth Moore, but I’m enjoying it.

    Take care!!!

A few hills south, I am afraid I cannot attend your Bible study, but I am guessing you will hear from 1,500 who will be interested.
With 150,000 hits a week, it would not surprise me a bit! You may be the next Beth Moore, Joyce Meyer, Kay Arthur or Priscilla Shirer.
May you feel surrounded by His love and always embraced by the Heavenly Father.

WIsh I lived in Nashville. Today is my last Summer Bible Study with the girls. We did the Psalms of Ascent by Beth Moore and it is awesomly good. Now I want to find something I can by myself so I can really have some intimate moments with my father? Any suggestions?

I found your blog about a week ago and let me tell you it’s been first on my list of websites to check each time I have the chance to be on the internet. The peace and love that just overwhelms my computer screen is incredible as I’m getting to know you and your family through your eyes. I so admire how you are as a wife and as a mother, and I only hope that someday when those beautiful tasks become mine, that I can follow through with as much faith and grace as you do. You are an amazing woman, and I only wish I lived in Nashville! I have actually been looking for a bible study, but I haven’t found one around yet. Beth Moore is fantastic, and I would suggest an online study through your blog…but I’m sure it’s already been mentioned once or twice!

I pray that you find the courage to be exactly who you are in Christ and to teach these woman who have the opportunity to be apart of this who they are in Christ as well. I hope you have a great experience with this bible study and that your love for Him just grows in leaps and bounds.

    With love in Him,
    -Kayla

PS-I would love to hear specific prayer requests for you, the bible study girls, and your family whenever you have the time to post them.

  • boutcrazy

My first response is…”I want to be there!!!” But I too, imagine hundreds of people showing up. I do live near Nashville (and work in Nashville) and I’m telling all the girls at work that have been reading your blog with me about your study…you’ve got 3 here who would love to meet you. This Monday night I am starting a Beth Moore study at our church in Hickman County. I would love to have you drop in one night because I have told everyone I know about you. We are doing the Beloved Disciple. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I have left you a surprise at my blog if you get a chance to stop by.

  • Kelly

    Angie,

Thank you so much for the beautiful way you share your heart…Last week a friend sent me your blog. I have to admit, it was the first time I visited a blog of any kind. I found your story so inspiring and encouraging that I started my own blog! Our family has a ministry for parents who lose a baby to miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death. We have experienced our own losses…and have told our own story many times hoping and praying to offer the same comfort to others that we have received from our loving Father as he carried us through our grief and continues to make beauty from ashes in our lives. I am so grateful that you have shared your Audrey Caroline with all of us. It is a great gift and privilege, and so many have been and will be comforted by your willingness to share. If you would like to hear the story of our Faith, Grace and Thomas (who are perfecting their dance in heaven with Jesus), please visit us on our blog…http://sufficientgrace-kelly.blogspot.com/ or our website: http://www.sufficientgrace.net. Thank you again for what you are doing. You are a wonderful storyteller and your heart is evident in every word. May God continue to bless and carry your family…His grace truly is sufficient to meet all of our needs.
Praying that the Lord will bless you as much as you have blessed others…
    In His Grace,
    Kelly

  • Jamie

Thanks for the book list. I would love to join you ladies for bible study. How far away are you from Huntsville?

  • Kim

Oh Angie-thank you so much for taking the time to care and put down actual steps to help so many people in so many different areas.
Thank you for not crawling under a rock although it probably looked pretty tempting and still does at times and instead, sharing God with all of us. You have no idea how you have just been a vessel of God speaking to me.

  • Annabelle

What a great list! I’m going to be checking out some of those books. :D
Our Women’s Bible Study Group is reading Beth Moore’s “Get Out of that Pit” book together. I’m getting a lot out of it. A friend of mine from our church joined us for the first time since losing her daughter (she was almost 3 and got ran over by a truck). She was there for the first week, but decided to read the book on her own since it was a bit overwhelming being around a big crowd and dealing with her loss (also this book…chapter 2 was hard for her). However, she has completed the book and said it was a great book!
Ok, sorry, this was longer than I had anticipated!

What I wouldn’t give to be a part of that wonderful Bible Study!! I know I have mentioned that many times in my e-mails to you. I’m just so sad that I’m in SD and you are in TN. Please know that if I could afford to travel one day a week, I would be at your house in a heartbeat!! Oh, how I pray that one day I can come to your house and just fellowship with you!
Thank you for your continued posts. I can’t wait to see more pics of Eli (maybe even some with you and your family with him!) I keep checking Jess’ blog daily, as well!

Until that blessed day when we can finally meet face to face…

    Love and Hugs,
    Jess :)

  • Honea Household

I so wish I lived near to come and participate in the Bible Study. It would just be a really long drive from west TX to Nashville every week! Ha! You are such a blessing to me.

    Love,
    Ashley

  • Chatty

I was scanning the comments and saw that a few people have expressed a wish to be able to join you for Bible Study (but can’t for distance reasons) and I was thinking the same thing! I wonder, if you’d even be interested, whether there’s a way to set up an online chat where we can sign in and participate?

If we could do it, I know I’d be there!

    -Ali

  • Kelly

I’m on expedia checking on prices of flights to Nashville once a week. I’ll see what I can work out. ha ha ha ha!!! OH I WISH I could come!!!!

  • Erin

I would *love* to be part of your bible study, the first thing that went through my mind when I read your post was “could I drive 7 hours to Nashville once a week? That’s doable right!?!?” I agree with the other ladies that an online group would be such a blessing, an online forum/message board would be amazing!

Thank you also for your book list!! I started Breaking Free last week at your suggestion and it is wonderful! It is my first Beth Moore book and I am already hooked.

I continue to pray with a fervent heart for your family and particularly for your heart and healing. Love, Erin

  • TXJohnsons

    Hi Angie,
Thanks for taking the time to post. Please say Hello to all your in-laws and tell them that we’ve come to love them and pray for them as much as we have for you.

Man, how lucky Nashville will be now that you are starting a Bible study. Considering I’m a few states away, I unfortunately won’t be able to attend :(
Have you thought about possibly video recording the Bible study classes, and posting it to your Blog? That way those of us that don’t live in Nashville have the fortunate opportunity to experience your wisdom and knowledge of Him “in person”.
    Please Please consider this!!!..

Many blessings and prayers to your family always!!..

  • Sarah

    I had to delete….typos.
I am green with envy of those that live in Nashville. lol
I would so be there if I lived closer, but Missouri would be a long drive every week.
Thank you for the list of books. I love to read and am always looking for something new.

As always, you continue to be in my prayers Angie.

  • Amy Call

    Angie,

I love that you are starting a Bible Study. How Perfect. I know you have inspired me to yearn for that kind of relationship with our God.

I am from Nashville and will be back in less than two years. Can you put me on a waiting list? haha. Even funnier thing is, I am serious. I feel like I have already learned so much from you and was preparing to hit the bookstore. Thank you for taking the time to provide a list and to go even further by breaking it down into categories.

    You are amazing and uplifting.

May God be with you today and everyday!

  • Forever Greatful to be a Wife and Mommie

Oh how I wish I lived in Nashville. I love reading your blog! I’m still trying to find a time to do my “pottery smash!” — that post is always on my mind.

  • Sara

…and then I wished I lived in Tennessee so I could join your Bible study!
Your book list is impressive; thank you because now I have new ideas for mine :)
One book I highly recommend, even to people without kids – “Parenting with Love and Logic”, Cline and Fay. Their approach has amazing lessons for a variety of life situations.
    Enjoy your Bible study!

  • The Harper Family

    Enjoy your family time, Angie!

Thanks for the list of books…some I have not heard of so I will write them down and check them out on my next trip to the book store.

Wish I lived near you…how I would love to fellowship and get to know you more. You are such a blessing to me.

  • Dani

I REALLY REALLY wished I lived near you. I want to move to Nashville one day (I sing). Maybe then I can meet up with you and give you a BIG HUG! :) I agree with others though. Maybe you can let us know what book/study you are going to be doing and we can follow along and fellowship online. Another thing you could do it video the bible study using a computer camera or something and post it every week so we can feel like we are there or set up a web cam where everyone can see it live. Just thoughts. It may be more of a headache then anything but it might work. :) Newaz…

Lots of love and cyber hugs,
    Dani

I wish I lived in Nashville. I think just maybe you could help fix my heart.

  • Mommy Firecracker

I am delurking…We are doing the updated Beth Moore study A Woman’s Heart God’s Dwelling Place, about the tabernacle. This past week we studied Psalm 84 and I couldn’t help but think of you and lift you in prayer.

Too bad Texas is so far from Tennesee. I would be one of the MANY who want to join y’all.

Thank you for sharing so much, you have blessed many.

  • Lorri

Hi Angie…Hope you don’t mind the promotion, but I would like to mention to your readers on a budget who might not have spending money for books right now, that there are also some wonderful bible and bible study resources online FOR FREE! I’m all about a deal and online bible tools are so quick and easy to use. I posted a starter list at my blog the other day…as well as a really, really basic explaination of starting bible study (ie…if you don’t even know what all those number references mean like Isaiah 40:31, come on over!)

Another book I recommend for your list is Deeper by Debbie Alsdorf. It’s about the basics of God’s love and would be a great stepping stone for someone who was just getting startedin their faithwalk or for those of us that need to go deeper into God’s love. There’s a website for the book with the first chapter too: http://www.deeperbook.com

You can click on my name above to get to my blog. I second the endorsement for the NIV and Streams in the Desert is one of my all time favorites!

Angie…I love your passion for Christ! Partnering with you in spreading tbe good news…Lorri

  • blessedwith5

Thanks for all of the great books and such!

  • Sarah

UGH! What I wouldn’t give to live in Nashville and join what sounds like a great bible study! Been lacking that lately but maybe will have to start up one here in Colorado :) Have a great day!!!

  • Julie

Angie, thank you for your diligence in preparing the book lists. Several of them are already on my shelves and will have the chance to actually be read now! : )

You are what I like to call super-duper-fabulous. And you are constantly in my prayers.

Every single post you take the time to write blesses me in endless ways.

    Julie in Sacramento

  • Janell Fredericks

I have NEVER wished MORE than now that I lived in Nashville…maybe you will be telecasting live into my livingroom someday!!!We can only HOPE!!!
    LOVE from MN…

  • Marcie

I’m smiling, too, at the thought of 1,500 (rather than 15) with their hands up in the air screaming, “Me! Me!”

Arizona to Tennessee is a brutal distance for a Bible study but it’s tempting! :)

You’re so great. God is so great. I’m glad He’s working through your pain to reach out to so many hungry for Him and His Word. Thanks for being so real.

    Marcie

  • lisasmith

Hi Angie! I don’t think I’ve ever introduced myself to you. My name is Lisa Smith, I live in Texas with my four kids and found your story through the pitcher post. Each time I visit your blog I am deeply humbled and brought to my knees for you and your entire family, passion for Him is stirred deep within me and I love the encouragement that you provide. Thank you so much! God is bringing such new and exciting things about through Audrey’s legacy.

Thought this would be a good time to delurk since IF I lived in Nashville I would so be on your doorstep!

I love most of these books and can’t wait to get my hands on some of the others. I also wanted to add a couple of children’s resources that are amazing.

The Jesus Storybook Bible (My all time fav and I think you’ve mentioned it) by Sally Lloyd-Jones

Day by Day Begin-To-Read Bible (for early readers to read on their own) By Karyn Henley

Bible Stories for Growing Kids (More in depth for older children. My daughter’s 8 and loves it) By Francine Rivers and Shannon Rivers Coibion

I think you wrote about this before but these resources have made it so easy for me to incorporate Bible time with my kids each day this summer and they are all at different stages with different needs.

Also, if anyone wants to read the Bible from cover to cover, the 90 day Bible is so helpful for this. I love mine too. It has become my everyday Bible because it’s so easy to read! Thanks for sharing, Angie!

  • Party of 5

    Angie,
I have followed your blog for months and have been so inspired by your faith. I wonder if you have ever read the book “a grace disguised’ by jerry sittser. It is life changing. Please consider it and also think about sharing it with your sister-in-law.
    much love, colleen

  • Jenni

I wish I lived in Nashville so I could join you! Anyone in Philly?

  • Marie

    Hi Angie,
Thank you for the list of books – I need some grounding in the Lord and I know some of these books will help me with that. I wanted to tell you that your’s is the first blog I’ve ever read. I started reading it about a month ago and have been blessed by it repeatedly.
I was even inspired to begin my own. Mostly to make sure my mom (out-of-state) gets to see her great-grandchildren regularly but also to express thoughts & share things I make.
I want you to know that everytime I go to my blog I will think of and pray for you and your family.
    You’ve touched my heart….
    In Christ, Marie

  • Christenson

I don’t live in TN but was wondering if you would consider posting your study online so I could follow with your group.

  • Daron and Theresa

    Hi Angie.
You don’t know me, but our family is praying for you, your husband, and your beautiful children. We check your blog weekly and are always blessed by what we read. I only wish I could join your bible study..but it would be a long commute from Virginia haha. May I share an Christian author that I absolutely LOVE… LORI WICK! She wrote a set of books…The California Series that are AMAZING! I couldn’t put them down. They are about a missionary family in Hawaii. Give them a try..you will love them. Well all of her books are great..but this series is the best in my opinion.
    God Bless you!
Please know that we are praying for you!
    In Christ,

  • The Slaughters

If Nashville wasn’t a gazillion miles away from Springdale, AR, I would so be there. I can’ imagine a better time led by a better woman of God.

  • kate

Wish you were a bit closer to Chattanooga. Then I’d definitely come!

  • carebear

Hello from Atlanta! I’ve been following your story since late February when a friend of mine referred me to your blog. My baby boy had just been diagnosised with a urinary tract blockage and I was told to abort him immediately since his chance of survival was so low in the long run. But I prayed about it and asked God to decide his fate instead of me or the doctors. Now I have a beautiful little one that I will have the blessed opportunity to give life to again when he receives my kidney at 18 months.
I just want to thank you for you! You don’t know me or how much you have helped me via cyber therapy, but you have and I am eternal grateful! I don’t know if I would have had the strength to do all of this if I hadn’t read your story. You are one amazing mommy and woman! Lots of love to you and your family. :)

  • Julie

Praise God for the wonderful blessing of family, I have a big family and I love being together with them.

Thank you for the books you recommended, I love books and i am always looking for a good one.

I know God is going to use you for ministry and I bet this bible study will be huge. May God increase his family through you.

  • Jennifer

Angie, I found your blog a while ago and now that I have I seem to see it linked from so many places I visit. I love it. It’s amazing what your family has been through and not only what God has done for you guys in ways of grace and comfort, but also so much that he has done for us (your readers). Wow, not only do we know Audrey’s story, but we’ve been able to follow along and she how elegantly you’ve walked this journey. I love your heart for the Lord and want that type of relationship with him again. Motherhood and daily life seem to slip get in the way of what I know should be a priority. Thanks for the book suggestions! Ugh…I just wish I liked to read. I saw you mentioned a homeschooling book. Are you going to homeschool the girls? I’m a little far for the Bible study, but I can’t wait to see what God teaches you and the other ladies that will be involved. I know it will be a blessing.

    Jennifer

Hi, My name is Annette. I live in Louisville, KY. A friend emailed me the link to your blog. It has impacted my life greatly. I have prayed for you. I think about you and your family all the time. I am currently doing the Beth Moore study- Stepping Up: A journey through the Psalms of Ascent. I think about you and how you should hear this or that as we watch the videos. Our group is about half way through with it. I don’t know how many you have done of hers but I hear the Daniel one is great too. I always look forward to reading your blog. It has blessed my life. Have a wonderful day Angie!

Maybe we could all sort of start our own local groups but study the same thing and all talk about it here? I’d be willing to host and organize a Philly one, if there is anyone in the area…

hanks so much for sharing all of those books. I am gonna check some of them out. I have a friend that lives near you so I am gonna tell her about your bible study. How neat would it be if she could meet you?? I wish I lived in nashville. big hugs to you!

Oh how I wish I could be part of the Bible study. It’s a little too far of a drive though. :P

Thank you for sharing the different books you enjoy. I’ll have to try some of them out. :)

You’re a blessing to me Angie!

Too bad I’m a couple of countries away… but I totally second some sort of email study or something like that!
By the way, good book choices, I love Praying God’s Word, Ragamuffin Gospel, What’s so amazing about grace, Your God is too safe and Desiring God.
And Tozer’s Pursuit of God is one of my all time favourites :)

    BIBLE STUDY
Angie, I have never commented before but…I do not live in Nashville but have decided to do a Beth Moore study myself. I’m going to send an email to local friends and even some friends in other states. I’ve chosen Stepping Up, its a 30 day study on the Ascents of the Psalms. Looks really good. Did you know that you can also download the video on Lifeway…if someone misses your class and needs to view. Its 4.99 a session. Also, I was thinking this might be a good one for you to start with too. Its not as long and you would be getting thru by the end of summer. Just a thought and I think its cool someone else is starting a bible study.

I took notice of your Raising Children books. Did you find one more helpful than the others? How do YOU handle one of “those” days when kids won’t stop whining/they demand to be held, even while you’re trying to get dinner on the table, and they constantly bicker and fight with one another???

  • Ashley

I’m glad y’all are getting to spend some time with family. While it can be overwheleming at times, there always seems to be more laughter and smiles when families get to re-connect. I apprciate the book list, I have actually been browsing the aisles of a couple of bookstores lately for “something good.”
Like a few others who posted, I’ve got images of a couple hundred young women in Nashville who will be beating down your door soon to join you in a Bible Study. I’ll be praying that God does good things in and through this endeavor.
    Grace and peace
    Ashley

  • Mare

Oh,what a wonderful idea…I wish I could attend the bible study, unfortunately, driving from Reno, Nevada…well, I’m afraid I’d be a little late. You have been such a great encouragement and inspiration to me. You have inspired me to renew my relationship with the Lord. I look forward to reading some of those books you’ve mentioned. Would you consider posting your lession of the week on the blog with some key points…imagine the ministry…people all over the world could follow along. Praise God!

  • Andrea

Oh how I wish I was in Nashville! Thank you so much for the book reccomendations. I see a trip to the book store in my future…

  • Beth Johnson

I know you love Beth Moore but I would like to recommend another study – go to Communitybiblestudy.org and look at their material. They sell their “Its in the Book” for people wanting to study the scriptures without starting a class. This way, you won’t be studying what another human says but the Word itself.

I have been a Teaching Director in this ministry for 9 years and I can tell you that it is great (IMO even better than Moore)and you and your group will learn so much about the Word.

If you want to know more, just let me know.

Have you ever thought of doing an online bible study? I dont know how it would work exactally but maybe have a certain place we could meet online to discuss, tell everyone a couple weeks ahead of time what book we’ll be using to let everyone go buy their own copy, and maybe a special email or message board just for us to ask questions and such in between meeting times. Just an idea.

  • Tiffany Evans

Have you read Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell? Great book.

    Blessings.

Ohhh, wish I lived there cause I would be emailing you for sure. I love Beth Moore studies. I am in the middle of Breaking Free right now. I loved and agree with you lists too. I love anything Philip Yancy. He is soooo good. I have done a few video studies too of his. The one on prayer is really great.
Anyway, good luck to ya’ll and I will be praying that hearts are touched and that God does a mighty work in your group and you will expereince true growth.

    Angie,

I would love to be in a bible study group at your house but I live in FL and with the high price of gas these days, that would be a bit much (anybody out there want to do a care pool?) lol

Really, I would like to do an online bible study….post the site and the time, I will be there.

    Marie

  • Crystal

Angie, Thank you for sharing your list with us. I will look into them possibly this weekend. I would really love to be able to read the entire Bible and the one you mentioned sounds like one that would work well for me. I have a love for reading and I want to read God’s word but it seems that I get lost when readig it. Thanks again for sharing.

Good luck with your bible study. If I lived in Nashville I would be there! (:

I am still praying for your entire family. Love to you all.

    Hi Angie,

I just wanted to take a quick second and throw out a book to that was a tremendous help and is still an encouragement to me. My pastor’s wife gave it to me several years ago when my husband and I were going through a very difficult time in our marriage. It’s called, “The power of a praying wife” not sure who wrote it and I’m on my way out the door to church so I don’t have time to look. There are suggestions in this book that I followed and still followed, at the time my husband was not a christian, now he is. One thing that I loved about the book was the suggestion of laying hands on your spouse and praying for them with or without their knowledge. I can remember laying in bed every night (I still do this) and when he would go to sleep, laying my hands on his back and praying over him, sometimes for a minute sometimes for a very long time. I truly truly believe that it was not only instrumental in saving my marriage but also in him becoming a christian. Just thought I’d throw it out there, you never know when someone may be walking that path.

Great idea on hosting a Bible study group. I do live in Nashville (and a member of the same church), but my schedule is so crazy, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be a good candidate for the group. BUT, I want to HIGHLY recommend the Beth Moore study, Stepping Up, which takes you through the Psalms of Ascent (120-134). I am only on the third week, but it is VERY good and has been something that God is using to draw me into a deeper relationship with Him (to the next level, as Beth says in the video session). I need to come introduce myself to you when I see you sometime, but I wanted to encourage you in this endeavor. Thanks also for the list of books. I’m also a bookworm and will have to check your list out more carefully.

  • Allmykids123

Oh, that makes me want to live in Nashville! I got all excited reading your invitation, until I realized that Texas just isn’t close enough to do the commute. I have completed about 5 Beth Moore Bible Studies and I think Daniel was my favorite! I will be thinking about you guys and your new group. Wish there was a way to do a blog-Bible Study or an on-line Bible Study. Blessings to you!!

  • Megan

I’ve been reading your blog for quite a while, and I think this is the first time I have posted a comment. Not because I haven’t wanted to, but because I have been waiting for God to lead me in what I should post/say to you.
You have touched me in unimagineable ways with your faith and honesty. I am a fellow believer, but have felt a new fire in me since I have been reading your posts (along with some other things going on in my life). I have some things I want to talk with you about privately (I’ll email you later), but want you to know that I will be leading a bible study along with you this fall. Please let me know what study you have chosen so that my small group and I can share in the same study. We can be kindred spirits in faithful fellowship and study!
God Bless you and sweet Audrey! I can just hear God saying “Well done, sweet Audrey! Look at all these souls you and your Mommy have brought to Me!”

  • mpeachyk

I wish I lived in Nashville! Angie, is it possible to have an online component to the Bible Study??

  • Creekermom

Angie, do you think you could at least copy your stuff for your bible study for those NOT in Nashville? I am in Louisville, KY

I would love to be a part of this at least online…

    Question: Do you Homeschool?
    We do! :)

    Great list of books!

    Angie,

Wish I lived in the Nashville area, I would be on your doorstep in a flash! God has called you girl, and I think this is the first step of many more He has planned for you. I am sure that both Beth and Pricilla would be signing up as well…maybe you could get Mrs. Fitzpatrick to cook for you. I pray that this will be a time of growth for you, and that God will confirm the calling that He has placed on you.
Love the list of Books I will be checking them out.
Oh need to stick a prayer request in too. Rusty and I are having some martial problems, I have discovered that he was having an internet affair. We are working on reconciling, I have 3 adult children that have been very hurt by this. Please also pray for the “other” one, she was dupped by my husband as well.

Thank thank thank Angie for all the great information. I so would love to come to your bible study but Adrian MN is not close to Nashville. Bummer……. So happy to hear that you had a house full of family. God Bless you.

I love Grace-Based Parenting by Kimmel and would suggest Sally Clarkson’s The Mission of Motherhood (and Ministry too). I love to read and we must have the same tastes or those are just the really great books!

  • Liz

I sure wish I lived close enough to come!! Think you could pull off a “short” commute to east Texas to do the study? :)

  • Stephanie

The Hiding Place is one of my absolute favorite books! I literally could read it over and OVER! I have a “Corrie” disposition, but always wanted to have the insight of Betsie. What an inspiration those two women are!

Thanks for letting us see your favorite books!

  • Janera

Thank you for the reading lists. Very nice list!

Wish I lived in Nashville, but alas, it’s a fur piece.

I’d like to invite you and all your readers over to my place for a giveaway. No travel necessary.

    Angie~

Once again, I am encouraged and blessed as I come to visit here. I sure wish I lived in Nashville. Three hours is a bit of a commute from Rome, GA.

Let us know what study you choose . . . I’ll be anxious to hear how God moves in your midst. : )

Thanks, too, for the great list of books. Many are favorites at our house, too.

  • Mommyof3

What a great idea! Good luck. Please tell Jack and Molly I said hello. I still have yet to see a picture of baby Jackson. Please post one if you get one while their there. I hear Jack is considering making his own record?? Leaving Gilead? Never sure when you hear these things through others what is true and what is not but either way I think it is a wonderful idea and know he will do so well. His voice is beautiful. My favorite is “Give Me Jesus” he sang it at my dad’s funeral and I’m forever thankful to him for that. Keep bloging, I love your stories.

    God Bless,
    Valerie

Angie – thanks for sharing your book list! I’m always interested in seeing what others read and how that helps their faith!

And, if I was in Nashville, I would soooo be with ya on a Beth Moore study…I mentioned this once before in a comment, but definitely do Stepping Up – I just finished and loved it! I’m still on fire to grow a harvest :-)

  • Melody

I so wish I lived in Nashville! :) But I just may go over the same book you guys do, because I know it will be great!

  • Susie Harris

Hi Angie.. I wish I lived nextdoor but I dont… what do you think about us doing a study together online in the blog world… Do you think that would or could work? I have done some of Beths studies at church… I think it would be a blessing.. Let me know what you think! Susie h~

  • maggieallen123

    Angie,
I am sitting here (in Georgia) trying to figure out how I can arrange to come to your house once a week to the Bible Study! What a privilege that would be! I pray that at some point you can have a Bible Study of your own that Lifeway would have in their stores for all of us to enjoy!!!! Thank you for inspiring us all with your love for our sweet Jesus. Thank you also for the list of books…we seem to have the same interest! Continuing to pray for you and your family. I pray that Nicol, Greg, and Summer are doing well.
    Becky

  • Kristin

Thank you for taking the time to do that! I am a book lover, too, and we have several favorites in common. I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these I haven’t read.

You continue to make me brave through Christ’s perfect love. Thank you.

  • ohmysoul

Hi Angie. I was just telling a friend of mine I’d love to join a Bible Study in a home sometime soon. I’ve been keeping up with your blog since I heard your story from a friend at work. If you don’t already have 150 people waiting on your doorstep, I’d like to pray about joining you. (I already want to, but I’m truly trying to pray first, before I commit to things – even the good things.)
If you need a ‘reference’ for me before you allow me into your home, ask Amy Jacobs. She may confirm I’m too looney to have around. ;0), love, Christa Horton

  • LisaBelieves

    Angie,
I’ve been “with” you for months and have read your story through gut wrenching tears and laughed out loud, you are just awesome. Absolutely a huge blessing to all who come in contact with you. Your beautiful girls and Todd are truly lucky to live with you and have you as their mommy and soul mate. I myself feel blessed to have found you and think it both mind boggling and wonderful that there can be a bond, heart to heart, between “strangers.” Funny how you’ve never seemed a stranger to me, as I’m sure others can attest. You’ve made an imprint on my life.
As for your bible study, I too giggled immediately, envisioning your yard FULL of people clamoring to be a part of such a great thing. What a gracious hostess you are! I’d be there in a heartbeat if I could. Maybe one day I’ll get to hug your neck and tell you to your face how much you and your family have touched my life. You are doing great things my friend, God must just beam at you with pride each and every day.
Sending hugs from the Midwest and praying that you feel God’s warmth on your face every day.

  • vaneblu

This are the moments I ask myself: why dont I live in Nashville? :(
I am in Dominican Republic, but I will love to go to the bible study if I could…

  • Annie

I have to tell you…my seven year old son also smells the pages in books. I have never heard of anyone else doing this, until I read this blog post. He LOVES books so I guess it makes sense, still I am releived to know that he’s not the only one who does this.

  • Truly Blessed

If Nashville sees a huge growth spurt over the next month or so…we’ll all know why! I’m thinkin’ you’ll have a whole lot more than just 15 showing up at your door. My brother lives in Nashville, but I’m a little too far south to get to come. :(
I love Beth Moore studies as well. My favorite is Jesus the one and only. I love, love, loved it! I’m currently doing Stepping Up, a journey through the Psalms of Ascent. So far I really like it. I loved Breaking Free as well. It’s kinda hard to go wrong with any of her Bible studies, ya know?
Reading some of the comments you have on here, I just don’t know how you aren’t completely overwhelmed. You have so many people that follow your blog on a regular basis. I just keep thinking….God has some great plans for that girl!
I pray that you will remain as grounded as you are right now, that your sweet spirit will continue to overflow and minister to others while healing in the process.
You have such a way with words, Angie. I know you have little ones at home and maybe this isn’t the right time in your life for it, but at some point you should think about writing a book. I bet you’d be a natural at it.
You serve and share the Lord with so many people through your blog. I think many women think of you as their neighbor. Luke 10:29, 37 comes to my mind. When the expert in the law asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Then when Jesus finished telling him the parable of the good Samaritan, the man replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus then said, “Go and do likewise.” You, Angie, are doing likewise. :)

  • Jimmy and Kelley

    Angie,
I don’t even remember how I found your blog, but I am wrapped up in your family, your amazing faith and your love for life! My husband and I will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary on Monday (yea!!) and I can only hope and pray that our faith and love for our family is half of what yours is! Thank you for opening up your life, feelings and doubts to us all!

  • Penny

WEll, what would the communte from Germantown Ohio to Nashville be?!?! My husband keeps commenting he wants to move somewhere warmer in the winter. I would love the fellowship but the miles are too much. I wish you God’s grace and a lot of brownies. I think you will fill the house!

    praying and praising…….

  • tracie

    I guess I’m moving to Nashville! :)

  • Katie

I love reading your blog Angie- I have been truly blessed by it and I so appreciate your honesty! Sometimes as Christians I think we can try and give a false impression that everything is okay while in reality we’re screaming and wondering why in the world God would allow us to feel so much pain. What is so wonderful about what you’ve written is that while talking openly and honestly about your pain and grief, your trust in God and belief in his sovereignty shines through. Thank you for being such a great vessel. I also wanted to recommend books by the christian author FRANCINE RIVERS. She has written some excellent Christian fiction books that would be wonderful for both Christians and non-Christians. I highly recommend her books. Her website is http://www.francinerivers.com

  • Hannah

Angie- I feel like I have come to know you through this blog and I would love to come to your bible study. There is one small problem- I live in Minnesota! :-) I love Beth Moore though and am going to her convention here in Minneapolis tom. night and Sat. morning. Thank you for opening up and sharing with us. I really do feel like I know you. You are an amazing women!

  • boltefamily

Thank you… that is all I can say…thank you for this blog and for sharing your heart. Our son Isaac would have been three on Monday. It has been a tough go especially since his brother Asher joined him in Heaven just four months ago. Thanks for being there, thanks for sharing and thanks for being you!

  • Rachel Wheat

Hi, Angie! This is my first post to your blog, but I just want to say that you have been such an inspiration to me in the last month. I only recently read your blog from the beginning, and it has moved me more than you could ever know. I have laughed with you, cried with you(so much I thought I’d short out my keyboard at times!), and I feel like God has used your story to teach me so much. My loss has been different from yours, but I have struggled with some of the emotions that you expressed and reading your blog has ultimately been an incredibly uplifting experience. I live in Murfreesboro and also have a blog, so feel free to “visit” me anytime. I continue to pray for your family and to thank God for “introducing” me to you.

  • Amy

I definitely live nowhere near Nashville, but your bible study is sure to be lovely. I will pray that God will send just the right people to you!

Oh, and the Hiding Place is one of my all time favorites too. I love the story when Betsy is thankful for the bugs. Now that is true thankfulness!!

  • The Epsteens

I noticed a homeschooling book on your blog-do you homeschool? Have you read Captivating by John and Stasi Elderedge-another good one. So wish I lived near you and could come to your Bible Study. Do you have any idea what you might be studying? As always, your posts are such a blessing.
    Lisa

  • Nancy

I so wish I lived closer so I could come to do a Beth Moore study with you. I am actually thinking of starting one at my house. Maybe we could do the same one and compare notes.

Thanks for all the book recommendations.

  • Erin

I was looking at Todd’s parents webpage today and was quite surprised to see they are based out of Dearborn! Here I am, what seems like a gazillion miles away from Nashville, yet you have family based in Michigan. What a small world :) If you ever come up to Michigan (fall is beautiful!) you be sure to let me know so we can have a coffee and I can squeeze your neck with a big hug! :) You’re a blessing to so many people, Angie.

    Erin

  • Andrea Nielsen

Love the list…have read a few. I LOVED Blue Like Jazz and have recommended it to many! What a great idea. Thank you.

  • amy

    I wish I lived in Nashville!!! :)

I wanted to tell you that I ordered a family tile from sweet Kaye at Engraved Uniques. I just got it today and it is GORGEOUS!!! She told me that she is giving a percentage of this particular tile to you guys to go to the Hope Clinic! I can’t tell you how excited I am about that!!! I’m also so excited to have something in my home that makes me think of you and your precious family. :) Kaye has got to be one of the sweetest people too…I’ve enjoyed her sweet emails back and forth. We both love YOU so much and have been so blessed by you! This truly is a community you’ve started…and all because of your sweet girl!

Lots of love to you sweet friend!!!
    Amy

  • Emily Ann

    Angie,

I have been wanting to leave you a comment since the beginning of May, but was unsure what words to use. You and your family have been in my prayers for months, since I first found your blog. I am often brought to tears by your writing, but I am also encouraged by your faith. God is doing wonderful things through you! :-)

    Emily

PS- I’d LOVE to go to that bible study. My husband and I both fell in love with Nashville when we were there in December, but I don’t think I could convince him to move. He’s kind of partial to rural Arkansas for some reason. haha

  • Bridget

hi Angie, I have being reading your blogs for a couple months and have greatly blessed by it. Thank you so much for being so open and sharing your life with us.
I live in Maryland so I can’t come to the bible study but I have to say that if Nashville has a sudden of influx of people moving there it’s because of you. Everybody wants to attend your bible study. Hope you have a big house! haha Let us know how it goes. have fun with your family

  • Tamara

Thank you so much for sharing your book recommendations! I am always looking for a new book to read.
I just started reading “Shepherding a child’s heart” and would recommend that to you. :)
I’d join your study in a heartbeat if I lived in TN! I think Michigan is a little far away for that. :) Please post what you are studying though, and we can learn with you.
My prayers are with you this evening.

  • KK

Dear Sweet Angie, I am so very thankful you are surrounded by family. And LOVE so many of your favorite books! I continue to pray for each of you, without ceasing. Thanks for being such a blessing to so many “stranger-friends”. With His Amazing Love, Kaye

  • Brooke

What night do you plan on having the study???? Mind you, I do live 3 hours away in Alabama but I would SO drive it if I could make it in time!!! No, Seriously. HA! (Some of my church girls would even ride with me I’m sure!!!)

Also, I know you hate plane rides but Beth Moore is having a special event for bloggers in San Antonio next month. My preacher’s wife and I are going…you should go!!!
You could meet Beth Moore and Priscilla….or not…I know you have that sweaty, nervous thing…HAHAHAHA!
    Take care,
    Brooke

  • davidcatherinewilson

What a great idea to do a Bible Study- wish I lived in Nashville. Have you ever done BSF (bible study fellowship) last year was my first year and it was amazing. I was sent the book streams in the Desert and it has been a great book

  • Stephanie

FUN!! Never in my life have I wished to live in Nashville…..until now!! ; ) Wish I could be there….but I know that this will touch so many people lives. You are truly one of a kind.

  • Kelsey

Angie, how amazing are you to open your home for us? I’ve never commented before, but after silently reading your posts for many weeks, I knew I needed to post.

I live about an hour west of Nashville in a really tiny town..seriously, we don’t even have a stoplight! LOL! I would love to be able to meet with a group of women and fellowship together. I would love to know more about it! :)

    God Bless!!
    ~Kelsey

  • Our Family

Angie – I love reading your blog. I find your words so moving and they always manage to touch my heart and spirit.

Thank you for posting the names of your favorite books. I am looking forward to reading them.

  • Randie Sanders

Angie I just wanted to tell you how much I LOVE The Jesus Storybook Bible! What a wonderful wonderful book! I cannot WAIT to begin reading this to my son. It’s so funny I talk about you like a friend to my husband…lol I was telling him a few weeks back you mentioned this book.

  • Randie Sanders

Oh and I’d LOVE it if you did some sort of internet bible study Angie! I couldnt really make the one in person since I live in Texas :P I’m so glad you are doing one…you are a very wise and Godly woman.

  • Kylie

I love the sell of books too. Especially old books. Obviously I’m nowhere in the area but I just wanted to say I hope your bible study group works out to be all that you hope and more although i’m a little worried about just how many people will turn up at your door LOL
I hope you are having a lovely time surrounded by family.

  • The Rowe Family

How I wish I could be there to do the bible study! That’s awesome! I did contact Danielle and can’t wait for my makeover! I love yours!

  • Beckycain6

    Angie,

Wow, your book list is awesome.

A dear friend sent me this “talk” by Rick Warren. It is so brilliant. I took the liberty of pulling out a few quotes and pasting them here. I promise you won’t be dismayed.

“No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

If you focus on your problems, you’re going into self-centeredness, ‘which is my problem, my issues, my pain.’ But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don’t get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn’t put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He’s more interested in what I am than what I do.

That’s why we’re called human beings, not human doings….” Rick Warren

So, all I can add is that I challenge any of you reading to re-evaluate your life today or, rather, your “to-do” list today and ask God where you can omit. It’s my prayer that you can find ways to empty your trash and fill the spot with ways to honor and praise Him. In the end, sweet sisters, it is ALL about Him.

    “Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
    Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
    Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
    Painful moments, TRUST GOD
    Every moment, THANK GOD….”
    Rick Warren

I’ll be in Nashville by the end of the summer (to visit an old friend–still have to tell my husband! :) ). I won’t be there in time for the beginning of the bible study, but if it is okay with you, I would love to bring Audrey something. I kind of want to steal a few moments to sit by her and thank her for making your life, and many other lives, so bent towards the Lord.

Father, thank you for filling us with everything we need. Thank you that your love is a verb….constant and gracious. We pray for forgiveness in our shortcomings and pray we can show you just how much we truly do love you. We pray for those who need you the most and pray, even more, for those who feel they need you the least. Thank you for everything….We love you.

    In Christ’s wonderful name,
    Becky

  • Amy’s Angels

Can you believe this? I’ve never done a bible study! Ever! OK, in the 9th grade for confirmation. But that was in 1986.

I’d be up for an online version. The last time I looked MN is no where near TN. : )

  • Tami

    Angie,

Okay, so I honestly confess that I’ve NEVER been bummed about not living in Nashville until now. I would absolutely LOVE to be one of the HUNDREDS that show up at your door! :0) California’s a bit far away though, so I’ll only be there in spirit. I would love to pray for your group, so when you have the day and time settled, let the rest of us “outta-staters” know so that we can pray during that time. What an awesome time you will have in the Lord…

A book to add to your reading…

    Redeeming Love (Francine Rivers).

It’s a very good book! I’m also a HUGE reader and have read many of the books that you spoke about. I can totally relate to finding comfort in the smell of the pages… Mmmmmm. Anyhow, Redeeming Love has been one of those books that I have read and then used so many times in my life. It’s a novel, but there is so much truth in it’s story. Truth that I’ve had the privilege to share with others.

Thanks for being so EXCELLENT at sharing your heart, Angie. I truly do wish I lived closer so that I could get to know you on a more personal level. I feel blessed to know you at all though.

    ~ Tami

  • the*4*of*us

FYI-Lifeway stores have the Jesus Storybook Bible on sale from the
    19th until the 26th for 8.50 :)

  • Peggy

WOW Angela…I saw 147 and thought that many were signing up for your Bible study…Then I realized who you are…and you usually do have that many comments…I LOVE BOOKS and we share so many in common!

The only reason I wanted to rush and leave a comment like probably many here…is not for the Bible study in you home cuz I'm too far from there..[You are such a BLESSING on women!!]My idea was for you to do it on line…please consider like once a week posting what you are doing? parts of the Bible study? Scripture to reflect on and maybe questions? I would LOVE to join you if you would consider this avenue…others have.
One ongoing right now is from Lysa's book from Proverbs 31. Just a suggestion…now I'll go back and read more from your blog & comments

May God continue to bless & heal you as you pour out blessings and your true heart to us to glean. Thank you…hugs…and much love!

  • Tiffany

Too bad I don’t live anywhere near you. Would have loved to join you. And Btw…I have done the Stepping Up study by Beth Moore. Amazing. One of my favorite bible studies.

    Have a fabulous weekend!

  • Heather

LOL! I KNEW you weren’t going to be able to have this at your house. I don’t think you realize, yet, the magnitude of people who love you and want to spend time learning with you and from you. I am in Iowa and if I could find a way to ‘commute’ to Bible Study in Nashville, let me tell you, I would!

I will lift this study in prayer. Beth Moore is such an incredible leader….as you are, too. I am just finishing ‘Breaking Free’ and cannot believe how much I have learned. Amazing!

    Love and Blessings, sister!

  • Traci

Okay! SO BUMMED I don’t live in Nashville!

  • Claire

Angie — please, oh please tell me there will be a way for out of towners to be part of the study! I live in Birmingham. We have to make this happen. Will stalk if necessary.

  • AJ

Hi Angie! Thanks for the list.. I have read a few of those and loved them all. Here’s another good one:
    Hinds Feet on High Places
    by Hannah Hurnard

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Jess

I would so do Bible study with you! If I wasn’t in Virginia! Good luck though! :)

  • Mattam

Angie, I have been part of an online bible study with a huge group of gals all over the west coast. If you want to know more about it, let me know and I will email you the detail of what we did. Tamara@joyfulnoisedj.com

  • Sara

I am so thrilled for you that you’ve had such a great response to your bible study offer… I used to sing at a Catholic Student Center in college, and sometimes I would wear a sweatshirt to class that had a super-small emblem on it for the church. Almost every time I wore it, some person in my class would ask me if I go there. They would him-haw around until I would say that I sing there if they wanted to come hear. And they almost always did. I’m not one to shout from the rooftops everywhere I go, but I find if you put yourself out there, even in the smallest ways, you have an opportunity to share your faith. And people are longing way more than we realize.

Anyway, it just reminded me of that with how eager people are to celebrate with you and study. I am homebound but have friends that come every other week to faith sharing at my house and it’s a great connection. Wish I could be there with you all, but will pray the planning goes well for as many as possible. Online is a great option, but I totally get it if you just need to tackle one adventure at a time :) Saving your sanity while making plans is priority one!!!

    Blessings on your day…

I know there are a lot of non-locals sad they won’t be able to join the study. Beth Moore is doing a nationwide study via her blog right now and it’s awesome. She posts the discussion questions there each week and then each small group can meet/have their discussions and then post any feedback from their group meeting. There are people representing every state in the US and many many other countries. This could possibly be a way for you to include those not in Nashville. Thanks for sharing your heart on this blog.

  • Mandy

Oh, how I wish I were close enough to attend. If you all do something online, please let me know. I have never done any Beth Moore bible studies but I know she is great. Thank you for your inspiration.

Dear Angie & Todd, I am yet another person that came to your blog from a friend from church telling me about it. I listen(ed) to Selah for several years and always loved the beautiful, peaceful worship from the CD's (and on Christian Radio). It's a blessing to get to "really" know the people behind it through you. Your husband along with the others have a beautful voice. You must feel so blessed to have him. I am starting from the very beginning tonight to see how and why this blog got started. I guess I'll be up for about 188 hours! It will be another "favorites" blog to keep track of. :) I am sorry for what you went through but I know that you are in God's hands and are doing OK. I can see it in your words. I will take note of the books you listed that encouraged you and helped you spiritually. I have been saved since I was 9 yrs old and grew up in a Christian home and my husband the same and so it's neat to see someone that became a Christian later in life and hear wonderful testimonies of what God has done so far and continue to do. You'll be seeing my comments every once in a while. :) Love ya and I feel like I already know you so well just by reading your very first post.

  • Jenny

I found your blog through a friend’s blog. I read it in a couple nights and I cried and laughed so much while reading. You and your family are in my prayers. I also wanted to let you know that I think you have such a great personality. You are such an encouragement to me! I just love you! I talk to my husband about you like we know each other. He thinks I’m crazy but that’s ok. :)

I was going to buy The Jesus Storybook Bible for my daughter the other day but since she is still too young (10 months) I figured I had time to wait for it to go on sale. Well now that you said it’s $8.50 I am going to be going to Lifeway this weekend to get it and also look for some of your other favorite books! Oh and I wish I lived in Nashville so I could go to your Bible study but I’m in Louisville. :(

  • paperglueetc

    Angie-
A story about a missing little girl in FL has really touched me and I thought maybe you could post something about it on your blog, I know you reach a lot of praying men and womena and I don't know this family from Adam but the grandmother has touched my heart and I'd love to see them lifted in prayer..http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=393867555..if the link doesn't work I have posted about it on my blog

  • katiecottle

I am so excited y’all are doing Stepping Up. I am doing it with some girl friends and it has been amazing. It has been a rough year for me and this Bible Study has been like medicine. It will encourage you, challenge you, and draw you closer to God.
PS – I just recently found your blog and you are just precious. May God continue to shine in your life.

  • created2teach

I am sorry you are sad, but I am absolutely thrilled you won't be able to fit in your house. It is wonderful when people meet to eat from the Master's table!

I was listening to Nicol & Todd sing today as I drove. I wondered if you are all feeling the prayers of so many these days. I also wondered why I only heard two parts. There are usually three voices in their group! oh well, thanks for blessing us all so much!

  • ginger

Dear Angie–God brought Selah to me through an extremely difficult trial. My oldest daughter, Becky,
(34),was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March '08, had surgery April & is still on chemo. A friend brought a Selah CD, Press On, to me at work & said I MUST go home & listen to it with Becky. I had never heard of Selah before. God has used this CD so powerfully
in all of my family's lives.Praise God!! I went to the Selah web site & from there God brought YOU to me through Audrey's story. Only a parent can know the grief & anguish of losing a child or watching one go through horrible chemo. God has given me a great love for you, Todd & your girls. Only Christ can give us peace, comfort & joy as we Hold On & Press on in His name. God bless you & know that He is working a mighty work in & through your lives. My love & prayers are with all of you. Thanks for letting me share.

  • The Russell’s

Is there any way for people that are not in Nashville to join the bible study? Maybe we could discuss on here or something. I’d love to be apart of it, but I’m in South Carolina and I don’t think my husband would let me drive to Nashville each week to do the study with you. You just have so inspired me to better my faith and I would love to be apart of your study. Any ways let me know what you think.

    Love your sister in Christ,
    Nikki

  • Lylah

I am always delighted when I read that a ‘younger’ mom has found the mystics. It’s rare.

Fenelon and Madame Guyon were two of the mystics (of course besides my Jesus) that taught me surrender during some hard seasons in my life back in the 80′s. Those two companions still grace our family bookshelf.

Also, my husband, wrote the Selah song – You are My Hiding Place. Michael sings that here on his myspace: http://www.myspace.com/michaelledner

I love your heart for Him. Lylah

  • Tamara

I am so looking forward to the Bible Study! I pray I will be able to be involved ;)

    Angie,
I am depressed and looking for a book to help me with hope in the Lord… can you help? e mail me at flutterbye0419@yahoo.com if you can. thanks

  • Joy

I wish I was close enough to join the Bible Study!!! But I honestly get “fed” through your blog every time I come here. It’s like I always find a new morsel, even through old posts that I sift through from time-to-time!!!

  • The Witts

I just wanted you to know that you have really made me search my own heart and desires. Over the past few months you have made God more real to me then He ever had been! Thank you for sharing so freely and know that you have affected me deeply!

  • Susan

    Hey Angie,

Just popping in to say hi and I’m just so excited about your bible study!

I pray God will refresh you as you bless others, especially in this season of your life. You are amazing.

I loved your book list. I especially enjoy reading Guyon’s books too!

If you don’t mind I’d like to recommend another author to you. She just came and spoke at our church. We’ll be doing a bible study on her new book called “anonymous”. Her name is Alicia Chole.

Here is a link to her site:

I promise you, you will LOVE HER WRITING!!!

Blessings to you my sweet friend,

    Susan

  • Randy and April

    Angie,

I have been reading your blog for some time now, and have really been touched by your family’s story. Last night while my husband and I were in the ER being told that I was miscarrying my first child, I thought of you, and of what you said when the doctor first told you about Audrey–”My Jesus is still the same.” I am so angry and confused and hurt right now, but it has been an inspiration and a comfort to me to read what you have been through, and to see how tightly you have clung to God. I appreciate that you have been honest with us that there have been moments you have spent shouting at the sky. But I am praying for the same peace that God has given you, and I am trying to remember that He still is “I AM.”

It’s not a book but still a good read. She is a former atheist who is now a Christian.

    Thanks for the great list.

Angie, I came across your blog some time ago through a friend of a friend and was immediately engrossed in your story. I sat and read every single word you had written with tears streaming down my face. Since that first day (I feel like I know you so closely even though we are complete strangers), I have faithfully checked your blog every day, eager and thirsty for what God shares through you. Because of you, my walk with Christ has strengthened in ways I’ve never known. You are an absolutely amazing woman and I pray for you and your family daily. Sending love all the way from Texas, Mary

Thank you so much for your blog: your honesty, your vulnerability, your faith, the book list, and everything else.

I’ve been following your story since hearing it on our local Christian radio station; my husband and I have prayed for you guys and I was so thankful when I found your blog.

I’ll be praying for your Bible Study — what an amazing opportunity for you and the women who will be blessed to attend.

If you find a way to conduct your bible study online I would love to take part in it. I have been reading the story of your family for some time now and you have inspired me.

    Thank you.

I just came across your blog through my sister. What a testament of God’s goodness and grace in your lives! I have a very close friend who went through a situation similar to yours about 1 1/2 years ago. She has written out her story in pamphlet form, and I would love to send it to you. She just had her fifth baby 2days ago! She now has 4 children here on earth and one in Heaven. I feel the two of you would be kindred spirits. If you would like to receive my friend Bekah’s story, please visit my blog to let me know. She would love for me to share it with you. In the bond of Christ . . .

    Angie,
I have been following your blog for several months now and have never posted anything – just been a spectator! A friend of mine told me about your blog and my first reaction was “No. I don’t think I’m strong enough to read such a tough story.” But one night I sat down and just started reading. Well, in reading your story I permanently stained my husband’s desk with my tears! They just fell and fell because I am the mother of a 15 month old son and I just simply can’t imagine. But, as I kept reading I began to smile (and even laugh at times) and see all of the wonder God reveals to us, even in the toughest of circumstances. Thank you for being so honest and open to all that God is teaching us all. Can you believe what a misistry this has become?!
I don’t know if this is an appropriate thing to do or not, but I am trying to help a friend of mine and your blog came to mind. So, here goes. My friend is the grandmother of Emery, a precious 10 month old baby girl. Shortly after Emery was born she developed a condition called biliary atresia. She is in desperate need of a liver transplant (Type O blood type), preferably from an infant. I really hope and pray that I am not being insensitive by making this situation known to you and the readers of your blog. If you have any ideas or suggestions of any ways that I might be able to reach any people who might be able to help this family, please email me at meeldridge@hotmail.com. I am also attaching a link to an article about baby Emery. You can read more about her story at: http://thesouthern.com/articles/2008/07/19/front_page/25133474.txt
Again, thank you for sharing your life with so many. And, good luck with your Bible Study – how exciting!
    much love,
    Mary Elizabeth Eldridge

    Angie,

My Daily Verse for today was the following:

And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!
    Romans 10:15

Being a constant sharer of the Good News is sometimes hard work, so be sure to thank those in your life who share it with you!

So, a great big THANK YOU to you! :) Have a blessed day.

Angie, I am in the mist of reading a great book, The Shack. I think you would really love it. I have read some of those same books and the ones I haven’t are now on my list. Thank you!

  • Darlene R.

I wish so much that I was close enough to join you for this study. I pray that you will find a place and time.

    You are truly a blessing!

I decided yesterday that I was going to go through the “Stepping Up” Beth Moore study by myself since no one I know is doing it. Imagine my surprize when I read on your update that you would be doing it! I am praying that you find a way to include us “out-of-towners” since I don’t think I can afford a flight from Phoenix to Nashville for every lesson (I would love to, though, to get to meet with you as well as my parents live in Dickson!)

  • erinz

Would you consider having an online Bible study as well for those of us that don’t live in Nashville? I live in Washington! I love reading your blog by the way. I feel so connected to you – you are a Wonderful lady! thanks for all you do!!

  • Kristy

Angie, I do not live in the Nashville area, I actually live up in Michigan. However, I am interested in following the Bible study with you if you are able to figure out a way to include those of us out here. I am including an e-mail address for initial contact (once you’ve contacted me I will send you my private e-mail.

Thank you for sharing your heart with us, whether it is in joy or great sorrow and desair. Your honesty and true love for Jesus is a blessing to so many and you have touched me many times.

  • Kristy

So, I forgot to include the e-mail address (I tend to forget attachments to e-mails too!). It is…

    cford9401@hotmail.com

    Thank you.

I just about stopped in my tracks when I got the end of this post. Psalm 9:1-2 are very special verses to me. About 9 years ago, as I was reading my bible one morning, I got the those verses, and it had a tune. God gave me a song, and those are the words exactly. God has used those verses so many times when I didn’t feel like praising Him. The coolest thing about it is that you really can sing those words to Him in faith that even though you may not want to praise right now, you will eventually. Blessings to you.

3 more books I would add to your list:

Introducing Christian Doctrine by Gordon Fee

Oop, Introducing Christian Doctrine id by Millard Erickson.

Angie, my sweet sister in Christ,

As many before me have done, I just finished your entire blog. From the first posting to this one.

I laughed. I ignored my family. I cried. I ate a pint of ice cream. I felt my heart breaking. I hugged my kids extra tight and I kissed them goodnight. I said to myself “I can’t do this. I can not read this blog. It hurts too much.” and then thought, surely I can read it if she lived through it.

Thank you. For sharing your heart, your life, and your daughters with all of us.

Thank you for the perspective, and the hope, and the laughter you’ve added to my life.

I will be following your blog – and praying for your family.
